Vision

Our vision is centered upon a process of formation:

The formation of the Popular School system is a long term project that must be understood and differenced as a two-fold: theoretical formation ‘pensum ‘, and infrastructural formation

For the theoretical formation we have initially planed the following goals:

In 2005:
Curriculum development for grade 1 and 2 Basico (Elementary)

Preparation for teachers

In 2006:

-Grade 1 and 2, Basico with youth from CPR-P
-Grade 1 Basico with youth from Nuevo Horizonte
-Develop curriculum for grade 3 Basico
-Training and permanent formation for teachers
-Systematisation of the Primary at CPR-P (educational goals, methodology, educational content, etc)
-Systematisation of the educational experience during the first year of inception of the Popular School in order to validate the educational content and the methodology
-Forecast objectives, technical orientation, ‘pensum’ at different levels.

Core Values

    • Human beings and the community as the central piece of the process of education
    • All historically excluded sectors of the population are an integral part of the Popular School
    • Our work is based on the philosophy of ‘Popular Education’
    • We conceive the dialectic materialism as a main tool to see and analyse the world and our reality; and we see historical materialism as a way to interpret the history of humanity by being open to all revolutionary and transformative thoughts
    • We work for the promotion of equality and the construction of equity from ‘praxis’
    • We will fight for critical consciousness and the spirit of resistance
    • We will promote education in all of its expressions
    • We are born from below, with a sense class identity, and with conviction to struggle for transformation
    • We recognize the experience and history of the different struggles for the liberation of the peoples of Latin America, and we take lessons their triumphs and defeats
    • Autonomy, is a political option that rests in opposition to the traditional systems of power and the traditional systems of education that reinforce this power. The search for the necessary structural transformations comes from within the communities affected by these structures
